I'd like to introduce the Recent Graduate Support Program to those of you who may be new to PSCSW or haven't yet heard of the group. The first few years out of school can be as rewarding as they are confusing. When I first graduated, I had so many questions about job hunting, supervision, and licensure. Simultaneously, I was reflecting in new ways on my professional identity, sense of community, and social work ethics in a new and challenging job setting. While I was fortunate to have great mentors, I relied most heavily on my network of peers during the most difficult times of my first year out of school.
The recent graduate support program is a relaxed, friendly group that meets monthly to discuss these exact issues. The goal of the group is for recent grads to have a space for peer connection. We provide resources and information to one another, but also build community around some of our shared struggles. Some members drop in occasionally, while others attend monthly and are working on carrying out projects to help make PSCSW as a whole more accessible to recent grads.
Regardless of how much time you can or cannot commit to our group, I welcome you to check out our next meeting. We roughly define "recent grad" as having graduated within the last five years, but welcome anyone who feels they may benefit from the group.
