PSCSW Coffee and Conversation Program presents:
Body Positivity: Health At Every Size (HAES)
Presenter: Jenny Weinar, LCSW
Date: September 28, 2019
Time: 2 pm - 4pm
(Please arrive at 1:30 pm for registration, refreshments and socialization.)
Location: Philadelphia, 19107
Body positivity, fat acceptance and Health At Every Size (HAES) are attracting a lot of attention these days but are often misrepresented in media coverage and public discourse. Oftentimes our own internalized beliefs about health and food affect our understanding of these concepts, resulting in double binding messages and confusion.
These concepts, which promote the dignity of individuals in all bodies regardless of size or health status, are highly relevant to social workers as agents of change and social justice. Drawing from the core competencies of the Be Body Positive model and Feminist perspectives, this program will provide an overview of HAES/body positivity and link these concepts to our work as clinical social workers.
Participants will engage in self-reflective and mindfulness-based exercises to facilitate embodied understanding of these principles.
Participants will be able to:
- Articulate the Health At Every Size paradigm and dispel common misconceptions
- Identify manifestations of their own internalized weight stigma in order to question and challenge these beliefs
- Apply HAES/body positivity to their own clinical work in order to provide weight-inclusive treatment
