PSCSW Educational Conference : Assessing Suicidality: An Interactive Workshop for Clinical Skill Building Presented by Denise Wolf, MA ATR-BC, ATCS, LPC

The PSCSW Education Committee is pleased to welcome Denise Wolf, MA, ATR-BC, ATCS, LPC, for our first conference of the academic year and our first ever virtual conference, offering 3 CEUs. Denise Wolf is a licensed professional counselor and a board-certified play therapist and play therapy supervisor. She has over 20 years of experience working with adolescents with histories of complex interpersonal trauma.

This will be an interactive virtual Zoom presentation,

and will satisfy the social work licensing suicide CE requirement.

 

Assessing Suicidality:

An Interactive Workshop for Clinical Skill Building

Conference Summary: This interactive workshop will teach participants essential skills related to suicide assessment and interventions. This is in interactive learning experience that utilizes role play and in-vivo skills coaching. This workshop will also address symptoms of secondary trauma. Participants will learn creative ways to enhance self-care and to create intentional structures of peer and organizational support that are appropriate to the culture of their workplaces.

Invited Presenter: Denise R. Wolf, MA, ATR-BC, ATCS, LPC is the Assistant Director of Art Therapy at Cedar Crest College as well as owner and practitioner therapist of Mangata Services. Denise is a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as Registered, Board Certified and an Art Therapy Certified Supervisor through the Art Therapy Credentials Board. She received her graduate degree from Drexel University. Denise received her DBT training from the University of Washington and was able to learn directly from DBT founder Marsha Linehan.

For over 20 years, Denise has been practicing as a therapist primarily treating adolescents with histories of complex interpersonal trauma. She works as a consultant for many local agencies and organizations including Mastery Charter Schools and The Philadelphia Art Museum providing clinical supervision and programming related to trauma-informed care.

Denise has presented at city, state, national and international conferences in the areas of DBT, trauma informed care, trauma and neurobiology, pedagogy, and clinical supervision. She has several articles published in peer reviewed journals and has contributed chapters to seminal texts on her clinical work with adolescents.

Program Objectives:

  1. Participants will identify multiple risk and protective factors when conducting a suicide assessment.
  2. Participants will conduct a suicide inquiry using clear, concise, clinical language that identifies: ideation, plan, behaviors, and intent, access to lethal means, as well as homicidal inquiry
  3. Participants will learn at least 3 possible interventions related to three assessed risk levels of suicidal action (low, moderate and high risk)
  4. Participants will name personal character strengths and predict ways to utilize these strengths to promote resilience

Continuing Education:

FOR PENNSYLVANIA SOCIAL WORKERS, MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPISTS, AND PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS: This program is approved for 3 CE credits for professional workshops sponsored by the Pennsylvania Society for Clinical Social Work, a state affiliate of the Clinical Social Work Association listed in Section 47.36 of Title 49, Chapter 47 of the PA Code, State Board of Social Work Examiners. This program is also approved for 3 CE credits for professional workshops for marriage & family therapists (Section 48.36) and professional counselors (Section 49.36).

FOR NEW JERSEY SOCIAL WORKERS: This program is approved for 3 clinical credits. Attendance at programs or courses given at state and national social work association conferences, where the criteria for membership is an academic degree in social work, are a valid source of continuing education credit (N.J.A.C. 13:44G-6.4(c)4).

FOR DELAWARE SOCIAL WORKERS: Presenter(s) have a minimum of 2 (two) years of practical application and/or research experience pertaining to the subject matter of this presentation. Please consult section 7.2.5 of the rules of the Board of Clinical Social Work Examiners to determine if this course is in conformance with state regulations.

PSCSW is authorized to provide CE Credits to participants who attend programs in their entirety, in this case from 9:00AM-12:00PM. Time will be strictly enforced. 

 This program will satisfy the social work licensing suicide CE requirement.
